Online Betting Traffic Surges Worldwide as Leading Brands Compete for Player Attention
17 September 2026
Betting websites globally received 27.1 billion visits from January to September 2024. This 49.2% growth versus last year shows the intense competition among gambling brands for player attention.
The global gambling market's traffic growth is driving major shifts in player behavior, with significant regional gains and intense competition among leading brands.
The Global Traffic Surge
Gambling websites hit all-time highs in global traffic during 2024. From January to September 2024 alone, total visits to betting and gaming sites worldwide surpassed 27.1 billion, according to data from SimilarWeb. This represents a 49.2% increase from the same period in 2023, highlighting consumer interest in everything from sports betting to lottery tickets.
September 2024 set records for unique visits, which reached 583.6 million – up 77.7% compared to the same month a year prior. Driving this surge was a combination of broader legalization, enhanced mobile experiences, and major marketing pushes by top operators.
Sports betting remains the clear leader in gambling website traffic, followed by lottery, casino games, poker, and bingo, per SimilarWeb data. Among these, casino websites generated 10.95 billion visits and 14.8% of the total market share, achieving 32.9% year-over-year growth in 2024.
The Regions Fueling Growth
While sports betting and casino products expand globally, certain countries and regions are leading in growth rates and shaping online gambling's future. SimilarWeb noted exceptional growth in Latin America, with Paraguay, Uruguay, and Argentina leading the way.
Paraguay saw a 276.5% increase in gambling site traffic, making it a standout success for online casino operators. Uruguay (+190.5%), Argentina (+176%), and Mexico (+87%) also posted major gains, along with Colombia and Chile at 38% and 29%, respectively.
Brazil's market has boomed following key regulatory milestones. In 2024, traffic to Brazilian betting sites grew 237% above pre-regulation levels, according to Blask.
Africa is another region to watch. Ghana's gambling industry has surged, driven by the success of local betting brand SportyBet.com. The company attracted 2.62 million monthly visits in Ghana alone in March 2024, capturing 57.1% of the market, per Blask BAP data.
The Brands Winning the Traffic War
As online gambling expands, leading players are aggressively competing for dominance. As of August 2024, Stake.com led globally with 107.76 million monthly visits, followed by gmx.net and SportyBet.com at 58.04 and 57.3 million, respectively, according to Semrush.

In the US, a different group of brands competes in sweepstakes casinos. Coin Cos. held 21.99% of market share in August 2024, followed by 15.13% for Chumba and 7.91% for LuckyLand, per Responsive Gambling data.
Among other trends, the US sweepstakes casino demand index peaked at 550,000 on 15 August 2024 before dropping to 330,000 by month-end, reflecting fiercer competition and possible migration to real-money operators.
How Traffic Connects to the Bigger Online Gambling Story
With such rapid traffic growth, online gambling is poised for sustained expansion. Market research firm Grand View Research valued the online gambling market at $88.0 billion in 2024, projecting $202.8 billion by 2030 at an 11% annual growth rate.
Mordor Intelligence estimated global online gambling at $121.93 billion in 2024, forecasting growth to $211.99 billion by 2031.
While traffic is a key metric, it doesn't directly equal revenue growth. Even as top brands compete for traffic, converting users into long-term customers remains a challenge.
The Business Implications for Gambling Brand Front-runners
As online gambling grows, leading brands face shifting competitive dynamics, regulatory changes, and operational demands.
Operationally, platform ease-of-use, streamlined onboarding, mobile-first design, and localized payment options are critical for retaining players. Technical improvements in these areas can determine whether users stay or switch between apps.
Regionally, brands must track evolving legal landscapes, where legalization, regulation, and enforcement shape market access and traffic patterns.
The most successful brands will combine data-driven insights from global markets with localized strategies that enhance customer value. As the online betting audience expands, the key question will be which brands can best capitalize on these opportunities for long-term success.
